I do that on my own work when checking at the end. However, when I have published something and then see a mistake I get very annoyed. With the in-built spell check, a virtual dictionary only one click away on my favourites bar and one of those old fashioned paper dictionaries (remember those?) on my desk I mentally punish myself for sloppy work.
So no, not ‘socially acceptable’. Standards need to be maintained.
Fair enough yet still in a text or a prompt e-mail reply we do sometimes make mistakes 🙂 and sometimes they are socially accepted 🙂
Call me ‘old fashioned’ but texting and rushed emails (pace of modern life!) I consider to be detrimental to the quality of the written word. Go on, call me a ‘pedant’ if you like. . . I believe this spills over into aspects of our life such as tidiness and discipline. Am I the only soldier in step on the parade ground?
I am ‘pedant’ as well, though only in my work 🙂 They call me Hitler over here.
